These carpets are made in Northern Iraq by an arab group settled there for more than a thousand years that received the name of Marsh Arabs. What I like about them is that they are completely embroidered in beautiful and decorative hues of reds and oranges with greys and blues. They normally depict flowers and animals, but occasionally have some human figures (just the silhouette) or they are purely geometric. They are made in wool, and consist of two panels sawed together.Because they are light in weight it is better to have them anchored in some way (tucked a small part under a bed or with a furniture on top). They are not appropriate for high traffic, due to the delicate designs of its embroideries which would be destroyed if chairs were moved back and forward on top of these pieces. They are no new, even thought they look that way. I have seen them come and many times they had holes and were in bad shape, but the restoration is well done and very difficult to detect. In general I would say they are between 60 and 80 years old.
